Symbols and images are known to evoke deep emotional responses on all of us, which is why watching television shows including the News can be so addicting. Television and video game producers are masters at getting, and holding our attention, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, what you may not be aware of is the fact that the choices you make regarding which shows to watch may actually be lowering your vibrations, and thus affecting you in unhealthy ways.

The Law of Attraction states, “That which is like unto itself is drawn” or “Like attracts like”.  Because we are all made of energy, just as everything in the Universe is made up of energy, we emit a vibration at all times. This vibration is either a higher or a lower vibration depending on how we’re feeling at any given time.  Once we activate a vibration within us, the Law of Attraction begins responding to that vibration, whether it’s what we want, or what we don’t want.  This is why deliberate intent and conscious thought is so important. You see, thought is also a vibration, and therefore, based on this Universal Law, we are always manifesting in every moment, with every choice and decision we make, with every action, reaction, thought and feeling and with every desire we set into motion.  And, because thought is a vibration, everything we think about, ponder, muse over, daydream about, worry about, and so on, is the vibration that we are sending out into the Universe.  And it is this vibration that then attracts “like” vibrations back to us.

So, what does this have to do with the media?  Well, if you are watching shows that are consistently evoking a negative emotional response in your body day after day and night after night, then what you are allowing into your consciousness are things like anger, pain, depression, hopelessness and the like. This in turn enters into our thinking, and we begin to live our lives from a state of sadness or fear, which then becomes the vibration we are sending out. It’s one thing to be informed of what is happening in the world, but it’s an entirely different thing to sit and watch something for hours on end that leaves you exhausted, emotionally drained and ultimately in a depressed state of mind.

Let me suggest that for one whole day, you keep your television off.  You allow whatever is going on in the world to go on, as it will, and instead, just allow yourself the delight of spending your time reading an inspirational book, listening to music you love, talking over meals with family or friends, and just filling yourself with things that bring you joy. You will find that by doing so, you feel happier, lighter, and you will have more energy.

If you find that turning off your television holds no interest for you, then perhaps choose very specific shows to watch instead, such as comedy, love stories, or things that evoke a positive emotional response.

And, let me introduce you to a wonderful company called the Spiritual Cinema Circle which is the home of entertaining films that inspire love and compassion, films that connect us with the world around us. “All our movies are carefully-chosen to provide genuine nourishment for the heart and soul, a much-needed nutrient at a time when more and more Hollywood movies are violent, profane and devoid of meaning. Our movies inspire wonder, insight, deep feeling and transcendence. Above all, they make you feel better about being a human being.”

The whole idea is about staying mindful about what you are letting into your thinking and your experience, and then choosing deliberately, what you want that to be.
